The wild west has been a popular theme in slots for as long as we can remember, but Yggdrasil’s Desperate Dawgs definitely adds its own twist to it with its mean looking cartoonish dog characters. The just released Desperate Dawgs 2 Gigablox is a direct follow-up for the first slot and we dare to say that pretty much everything has been improved all the way from the graphics to its actual features!
Overview
One big change compared to the original game is already mentioned in the title of the new release; Gigablox. The new version of Desperate Dawgs indeed has the Gigablox mechanic included in it, which means that on each spin you will also get one huge Gigablox symbol that can be up to 6×6 in size. This Gigablox symbol will then break down back to normal 1×1 symbols if it lands on your reels so that it is part of a winning combination.
One thing we liked about the original game was the different bonus rounds it had and luckily Desperate Dawgs 2 doesn’t take that away. We still have three different bonus rounds included here, one for each of the main dog characters of the game. Each of these can be activated by their own Scatter symbols and you will need minimum of 6 Scatters anywhere on your reels to trigger it. Only one type of Scatter symbols will land during a spin and here are the different options with their unique features;
Train Robber: You get as many Free Spins as you had these Train Robber Scatter symbols on your reels when the feature was activated, so six Scatters would mean six Free Spins and so on. During the feature each spin includes a train with three wagons and each of these wagons contain either cash prize of 2-10x your stake or a dynamite stick. You need to get two dynamite symbols to open up the silver safes, which will contain a cash prize up to 30x your stake and five dynamites to open up the gold safe, which contains a cash prize up to 200x your stake.
Gunslinger: You get as many shots as you had these Gunslinger Scatter symbols on your reels when the feature was activated. When the feature begins you first get to choose between high and low volatility revolvers. The low volatility version is loaded with win multipliers of 1x, 2x, 2x, 3x, 3x and 4x, while the high volatility gun is loaded with multipliers of 1x, 1x, 1x, 1x, 1x, 10x. Each shot during the bonus game then reveals a prize and the random multiplier from your gun will be applied to it.
Bad Boy: You get as many Free Spin as you had these Gunslinger Scatter symbols on your reels when the feature was activated. This plays almost like the base game, except now your reels can be expanded! This happens through wins, as each win that you get during the feature will expand your playarea with +1 extra row and +15 winlines. If your win extends on the revealed extra row, you will also get +2 extra free spins. The normal playarea of 6×4 with 40 winlines can be extended to a maximum of 6×8 area with 100 winlines.
Chanz verdict
All in all we think that this is a very solid sequel which has managed to improve everything from the first game. The graphics seem to be more polished, the soundtrack is better and even the maximum win potential has received a substantial bump from 3902x your stake in the first game to 9872x your stake in this new version.
