The original Gonzo’s Quest by NetEnt is undoubtedly one of the most popular and well-known slot games that has ever been made. This was proven by our very own blog readers as well when it was voted as the Best Slot of the Year 2020, even though the game was actually released almost a decade earlier in 2011. It’s still loved by many players even today, so it’s not really at all that surprising that we are still getting sequels and spin-offs from it – like the brand new Gonzita’s Quest by Red Tiger, which we are going to take a closer look at right now!

Gonzita’s Quest introduces a female counterpart for Gonzo who goes by the name of Gonzita. The game doesn’t make it clear what is their exact relationship; are they a brother and sister duo or perhaps a couple? Either way, Gonzita is an explorer-conquistador just like our old friend Gonzo is.

Visually the slot is very similar to the original Gonzo’s Quest and depicts a thrilling adventure inside some old and forgotten Aztec-style temple. The game plays on five reels with three rows in each of them, creating a total of 20 winlines which is again a familiar setup from the original title. The Avalanche feature is still included as well, meaning that any winning symbols will be removed from your reels, allowing new symbols to drop into their place to replace them and potentially create new wins for you. This goes on for as long as there is no more new wins generated with the newly dropped symbols.

What players should really be aiming for is activating the Free Spin feature, as this is where the win multipliers really come into the picture allowing you to potentially hit much bigger wins. To launch the bonus round you first need to land minimum of three Stone Slab symbols with win multipliers somewhere on your reels during the base game. You always start the Free Spin feature with 3 free spins, and your middle reel will be replaced by Gonzita who is sitting on a golden throne. Only Stone Slab symbols will be falling on the remaining reels 1, 2, 4 and 5 and these can land either as empty symbols or with a win multiplier included. Landing a slab with a multiplier will also reset your amount of free spins back to three. The empty Stone Slabs will then be removed for every new spin, while the ones with multiplier will stay on their place. Once a reel is completely filled with only Stone Slabs that include some kind of win multiplier, Gonzita will collect all those symbols and add to the total win amount displayed under her throne. Additionally the reel which was filled will be upgraded to the next level of slabs, and these are the kind of win multipliers each level of slabs can have;

Stone Slab symbols: can have a win multiplier of 1x, 2x, 5x or 7x of your stake
Golden Slab symbols: can have a win multiplier of 10x, 25x, 50x or 75x of your stake
Diamond Slab symbols: can have a win multiplier of 100x, 250x, 500x or 750x of your stake

Chanz verdict

Honestly it feels like it’s always a bit risky move to do a spin-off from such a classic and loved title as Gonzo’s Quest is, as it would be such a shame if the follow-up game wouldn’t deliver to the high expectations it will naturally have. However, we can happily say that this is not the case here, and Red Tiger has really managed to keep the spirit of the original game while updating some of its key features and offering something new that way. We give a warm welcome to Gonzita and now you can head to Chanz.com to meet her yourself!
