Red Tiger’s new slot Peggy Sweets takes us to a retro-style American roller skating diner, or rather roller skating bakery perhaps, as the menu seems to be consisting only of sweet items such as doughnuts, pancakes, jellos and milkshakes, which are depicted in the major pay symbols. Either way, it has a nostalgic 50s retro-vibe to it with some flashing neon lights and funky pop music. Beneath the pretty surface it also has some great gameplay features baked into it, so lets take a closer look at those!

Overview

The game uses a 5×5 symbol grid system where wins are paid from the amount of matching symbols instead of their position on the grid. In other words, you don’t need to land your symbols in any kind of formation such as clustered and grouped together, and simply landing 8 or more symbols anywhere in the grid will pay out a win even if the symbols are not adjacent to each other. After a win all the symbols that were part of it will be removed to allow new symbols drop in and this continues as long as there are no new wins generated with the new symbols.

The three hostess girls named Peggy, Tina and Lisa really have the spotlight in the game as each of them have their own unique twists and features to serve. The features will be randomly triggering when the girl in question is active, and at least one of them always is. The currently active girl will be displayed on the top right corner of the slot and here are all the different features explained:

Make it large (Pink girl) – Changes one of your lower tier symbols to a higher tier symbol
Get one free (Blue girl) – Doubles one of your symbols so that each instance of that particular symbol counts as two symbols instead
Win multiplier (Yellow girl) – Gives a random multiplier between 2-5x which is also applied to any respin wins that may occur when the first winning symbols are removed and replaced with new symbols

There is also a Free Spin feature which is triggered from the base game by landing three Free Spins Scatter symbols anywhere on your grid. You get 8 free spins to start with, and now the lunch time rush hour has apparently started at the bakery, as all the hostesses are active instead of just one of them. This means that any of the three unique features can now trigger on any spin, and the features will be triggering more frequently overall than during the base game. The win multiplier from the Yellow girl feature also wont reset between the spins and now it can grow all the way up to 30x.

Additionally now there is a progress bar above your grid which is filled by collecting winning symbols, and it awards you with 8 more free spins once it is completely full. Each symbol that is part of a win gives +1 point to the progress bar, or +2 points if the symbols are doubled with the Blue girl feature, and you need total of 36 points in order to fill up the whole bar.

Chanz verdict

Peggy Sweets might not be the most original slot out there when it comes to its features, but they all work very nicely together here. We really liked that the wins are paid regardless of where your symbols are on the grid if you just have enough matching symbols, and the three rotating features make even the base game grind quite exciting and enjoyable.
