World Athletics Combined Events Tour Tallinn 2026 begins tomorrow, and we went to see how Estonian multi-event athlete Rasmus Roosleht prepares for this important competition. In the final days before the start, his focus has been on fine-tuning. Training sessions get shorter and more intense, with precision replacing volume as the priority.

Training approach

“As the competition approaches, the focus is more on sharpness,” Roosleht explained. Sessions are usually shorter than during the base-building period, but noticeably more intense. The goal is clear: to bring out the competitive readiness needed to perform at his best when it matters most.

Further away from competition season, the work looks a bit different. That’s when the “volume period” takes priority: building strength, endurance, and overall capacity. Roosleht describes it like a pyramid: first you create the base, and then, closer to the event, you rise to the top with sharper form and competition intensity.

In the final lead-up, training also becomes more targeted. Roosleht pays extra attention to the disciplines where he feels less confident and knows he needs more repetition. It’s a focused approach — strengthening the weaker links while maintaining the strengths that make him competitive. One of those strengths is shot put — a discipline where Roosleht feels especially confident and can pick up valuable points.

Competition mindset

When it comes to competition day routines, Roosleht keeps things simple. He hasn’t built one fixed morning ritual, but he does try to stay in a familiar rhythm to feel calm and ready.

His mindset for competition is equally straightforward: control what you can, and let the rest unfold. “The goal is to do your own thing — as well as you can,” he says. “You can’t control what others do. If you do your part, you usually end up with a pretty good place.”

Chanz is happy to support Rasmus on his journey and cheer him on through his preparation and competitions.
