Play’n GO’s brand new release The Last Sundown takes us for an adventure in a post-apocalyptic deserted world with some cool cyberpunk vibes sprinkled on top of it and a huge maximum win of 18,000x your stake!
Overview
This game is actually pretty basic when it comes to the layout and features of the slot. It runs on five reels, three rows and has 243 default winlines; so it’s a familiar setup we have seen in tens if not hundreds of slots before. However, pretty much the whole game here resolves around the Splitting Symbols mechanic, which can increase your winlines all the way up to 7,776 by splitting those symbols up!
The Splitting Symbol mechanic is active both during the base game and the Free Spin feature. It works by selecting one random symbol during each spin and then all instances of that chosen symbol which land on your reels will be split in two. This of course creates more rows on your reels and that then again means more active winlines and more possibilities of landing a series of symbols on a line.
Speaking of the Free Spin feature, that will be triggered when you land minimum of 3 Med-Kit Scatters during the base game. This will award you with 8 Free Spins and 5x, 10x or 50x your stake win depending on how many scatters you landed. A random symbol will be selected when the feature starts, and that symbol will be your splitting symbol for the duration of the feature. Additionally a Collector Symbol is randomly chosen as well, and that symbol can also be upgraded to a splitting symbol by filling its respective meter by collecting those symbols during the feature. You need to collect 6 symbols to convert a low-tier symbol, 5 symbols for the high-value symbols and 4 symbols to convert a Wild-symbol – which indeed can be selected as a Collector Symbol too. Converting the symbol will also award you with +3 free spins.
What makes the Free Spin feature even better is the fact that all the symbols you manage to split will stay like that for the duration of the feature, so theoretically you can reach even full screen of split symbols.
Chanz verdict
While the game doesn’t exactly shine with new and exciting features, it has really nailed down the Splitting Symbols mechanic which manages to keep the game interesting at all times. The post-apocalyptic graphic design is also spot on and reminds us of movies such as Mad Max, which has perhaps even given some inspiration here?
